"In riding a horse, we borrow freedom" - Helen Thompson
WHO WE ARE
MISSION: Through our Equine Facilitated Therapy and Learning programmes, we empower and educate people with disabilities and disadvantages, and assist with minimising barriers to opportunities in mainstream society, and improve quality of life across all spheres that we work in.
BACKGROUND: EARTH Centre NPC is a long-established organisation specialising in the field of Equine Facilitated Therapies. Our extensive experience and working alongside our horses in supporting the disabled, the vulnerable and the disadvantaged in our community places us in the position to uplift, empower and educate those most at risk. We work with passion, dedication and creativity to deliver sustainable change within our network.
We partner with 11 special needs schools in Gauteng, building long-lasting relationships with each of them to provide essential therapeutic services to their students. We reach out further into the most vulnerable communities through quarterly programmes in Soweto, Zandspruit, Cosmo and by partnering with various other organisations, providing physical and social relief and building capacity in these communities. Our Therapy Riding Programmes cater for people with disabilities such as Cerebral Palsy, Downs Syndrome, Autism, ADD / ADHD and the Deaf.
While Therapy Riding is our core focus area, our highly skilled horses and facilitators also provide Equine Facilitated Learning sessions for groups, individuals and corporate clients looking to enhance leadership skills and / or pursue personal growth and development goals. We also work with school groups to deliver Youth Development Programmes facilitated by the horses, teachers, and our EARTH Centre team.
Most of our work relies on sponsorship from philanthropic organisations and the public. We rely on our team of more than 70 volunteers to assist us in the lessons weekly with the more than 150 children that are currently riding at our centre.

OUR WORK
Horse Riding Therapy goes above and beyond what can be achieved in a therapy room. The therapy is provided by a horse, whose movement is the key factor, as well as a qualified Instructor and well-trained volunteers.
In our EduRide programme, qualified instructors provide classical style dressage and jumping lessons from beginner to advanced level while catering for special needs students, on the horse and on the ground! In the Equitherapy programme, instructors focus on developing foundational skills from horseback.
We partner with professional coaches and Corporate Educators to provide interactive sessions with our horses based on individual and company needs. The learning is experiential - participants learn about themselves and their relationship to the world, through the activities with horses.
OUR COMMITMENT
We are 100% committed to being a living, growing centre and one that is sustainable in every pillar. This is achieved by:
- Reaching out to socially isolated, marginalised, disadvantaged, and disabled communities through our programmes
- Working with a business and events greening company to ensure that our impact on the environment is minimized, and focused on regeneration
- Running income generating programmes thatcurrently cover 30% of our costs, and reaching out to sponsors to help support the above-mentioned communities
